Becoming a Care Assistant or Healthcare Assistant is an extremely important and rewarding job. Often when looking for roles, both the terms Healthcare Assistant (HCA) and Care Assistant are used, but knowing the difference between the two can be helpful when job hunting. The terms are commonly used by people to describe the same role, and although there is nothing wrong with this, since the nature of the roles are similar and overlap, it’s good to be able to differentiate.
Healthcare Assistant
A healthcare assistant is often associated with a role within hospitals, GP surgeries and NHS Trusts. Healthcare assistants support clinical staff in the provision of treatment, preventative care, health promotion and patient education.
Care Assistant
Care assistant is a term more commonly associated to community, care homes or home care settings. A care assistant’s role commonly includes helping clients with their immediate needs such as maintaining hygiene, dressing washing and day-to-day tasks.
